Not a Tulip

DSC_0129er

This purple-blue flower was amongst the tulips at Dow’s Lake (Commissioner’s Park). I took it during my first trip to that Tulip Festival location, which turned out to be a good visit as the Tulips are already a little sad looking (likely due to their early bloom).

Tulip Couple

DSC_9984er

It is interesting how the tulips come up a little different each year. This tulip couple wasn’t around last year, which leads me to believe that I will be able to get a whole new set of photographs from the same garden. This obviously makes me very happy.

Persistent Tulip

DSC_9857er One of the first images from my garden this season. It isn’t a very diverse garden, in fact it consists of only tulips in two beds – but they do come in a variety of colours.
This guys was truly determined to get through the earth (and snow) – so much so that he pushed right through this little stick that was on the ground (presumably stuck there with ice and/or snow).

This was the first photograph I took inside the Botanical Gardens in Montreal and is actually one of my favourites, though it is likely due to the purple colour of the flowers.

Iris

>> Saturday, June 13, 2009

I want to plant irises in my garden this year because not only are they beautiful and definitely up there on my list of favourite flowers, but they bloom right after tulips so my garden would be full of life right up to the point where I could plant smaller summer flowers like marigolds, etc. They also need little to no work, similar to tulips, which is good as I do not have a green thumb.

Purple Rain

Again I feel the rich colour of this purple tulip makes the water drops stand out even more. Perhaps I am just partial to the colour purple though.

Linked Tulips

>> Sunday, May 10, 2009

I didn't realize when I was taking the photos but when I was editing through them I noticed that these tulips were connected by a single thread of a spider's web. I wish the light was still out so I could take some more photos of it.

DoF Tulip

I am a big fan out depth of field and try to use it to its full advantage in my photography. I feel it adds interest to photos - always have. I find it is also a really great way to make tulip photos look different even when you take a photo of the same group of tulips over and over again.

Oval Bed

>> Friday, May 8, 2009

The Circle Bed located in Commissioners Park leads to some really great tulip photos and inspired a portion of my backyard garden - my Oval Bed. There are multiple types of tulips in my bed as compared to that of the NCC but I am really happy with how full it has grown.

The tulips are really starting to come in now and I am so pleased with how many different varieties we have. This one seems to jump out of the screen due to its naturally high saturation.
