I have several ideas for what could be some really interesting portrait shoots. I have the gear to get the quality of shots I want. I have a repertoire of models to use. Unfortunately I do not have the weather I want. I don’t want my models to freeze to death in the coldness that is Ottawa winters so let’s all start thinking warm Spring-like thoughts so I can get moving with my ideas. Okay, we are all in agreement – Spring needs to come now!

For the most part, the arrangements at the Tulip Festival locations change from year to year. The arrangement above placed two colours of tulips directly beside each other enabling shots with dividing lines like this one. Unfortunately the sparse growth of the tulips makes it a little less dramatic, but you get the point.
This purple-blue flower was amongst the tulips at Dow’s Lake (Commissioner’s Park). I took it during my first trip to that Tulip Festival location, which turned out to be a good visit as the Tulips are already a little sad looking (likely due to their early bloom).

It is interesting how the tulips come up a little different each year. This tulip couple wasn’t around last year, which leads me to believe that I will be able to get a whole new set of photographs from the same garden. This obviously makes me very happy.

One of the first images from my garden this season. It isn’t a very diverse garden, in fact it consists of only tulips in two beds – but they do come in a variety of colours.
This guys was truly determined to get through the earth (and snow) – so much so that he pushed right through this little stick that was on the ground (presumably stuck there with ice and/or snow).
This photo was taken during the opening weekend of the Tulip Festival at Commissioners Park. Every so often an insect of some kind comes and makes for a different kind of Tulip picture.
Today is the official start of the Tulip Festival. I am not going to see any tulips today though (except those in my backyard) as I have to return the rental car in a bit and it looks like rain (and I therefore cannot bike or walk to any of the locations). I will likely go see something this weekend as well as next week after work perhaps. I am so excited about the Tulips and the events being run during the festival. I spent the afternoon at Mer Bleue today and loved it. I had been trying to venture out there last fall but never got around to it and am so glad I finally went. I plan on returning out there again when Spring really hits.
THE TULIPS HAVE ARRIVED!I have been slacking lately when it comes to my art. This is partially my fault and partially not. It has been so busy with work lately I have been either too exhausted after working so hard during the day or working throughout the night and therefore have had no time to work on my photos. I have also just been feeling the winter blues and I tend not to find this time of the year too pretty a the snow around here is icky and grey and the grass you can see is ugly and dead - not that inspiring to me. Spring is just around the corner though and I am super excited about it - the babies will be born at the agricultural museum soon and buds are starting to sprout from the gardens around the neighbourhood. And of course ... the Tulip Festival starts next month! My photo collection will be growing rapidly in the next few months for sure.
